JD Sports has partnered with New Balance and South London artist Skye Newman to launch three exclusive colourways of the New Balance 204L, and they’ve taken over a beauty salon in London to bring the campaign to life inspired by Skye’s track “Hairdresser”.
Set inside SALT in Borough Market, the JD x New Balance salon takeover reframed the traditional footwear drop as something more intimate and community-led. Rather than focusing purely on product, the space was designed to reflect the energy of women-led creative networks, bringing together music, beauty, and fashion under one roof.
Guests stepped into a fully reworked environment spread across three floors, where sound and styling came together. At the core, the event was an exclusive preview of new material from Newman’s debut project ‘SE9’, paired with a live performance that anchored the evening of her world.
Across the space, installations spotlighted the new JD-exclusive 204L. Interactive touchpoints and subtle branding moments kept the footwear in focus without overwhelming the wider concept. The launch also tied in with a wider campaign fronted by Newman, shot in New York City, and produced by an all-female team. The visuals positioned the 204L through the lens of individuality rather than trend-chasing.
As for the New Balance 204L itself, the shoe leans into the current appetite for stripped-back silhouettes. Its low profile references archival running styles, while suede uppers and curved overlays give it a more contemporary finish. The result sits comfortably between retro and modern. It’s understated, but far from basic.
Three colourways are landing exclusively at JD: grey, red/purple, and brown. Each pair is priced at £110, with the final drop landing soon.
