It’s time to swap the rotation: out are the clogs and slides, in come the all-enclosed sneakers and heavy duty boots, such as those in the new FW23 drop from Moncler. The Trailgrip is receiving a bunch of redesigns for FW23, following on from successful releases of the Trailgrip Après boot designed by Pharrell‘s Billionaire Boys Club with a helping hand from Salehe Bembury.
The Bembury-designed shoe is called the Trailgrip Grain, which comes as no surprise to those familiar with his signature grain-effect quilting. The sneaker features topography-style 3D detailing, the Trailgrip’s classic spiked rubber outsole and toe cap, and co-branded tags on the heel. It comes in several colourways that include hues of green, orange and pastel taupe. One quick look through Bembury’s IG post and it’s clear that these are definitely going to be breaking banks with a slew of fire emojis and “shut up and take my money” GIFs.
Taking it back to the OG Trailgrip GTX trainer, Moncler redesigned their gorpcore-approved utilitarian shoe in new colours that include pink with forest green details, as well as an all-over cobalt blue, khaki, and beige.
It isn’t just the colours that are being refreshed this season, but also the fabrics. The Trailgrip now comes in a Teddy version which is made out of sherpa. The Trailgrip Knit takes fabrication to a new, digital level. For the first time for Moncler, this sneaker’s upper knit was created digitally in a deep khaki colour, with more to come throughout the year.
Moncler hasn’t just given some TLC to its Trailgrip sneaker though, with two boots having also been reworked. The classic hiking Peka Trek boot is dropping in a black leather and brown suede, and later this year will be released as a reworked collaboration with Palm Angels. The Gaia Pocket boot comes in a High version for FW23, hitting a knee-high length and finished off with bold, crossover straps.
The new Trailgrip GTX colourways and the Salehe Bembury-designed Grain one are all available to shop now, with a lot more silhouettes and collabs to come.
