sacai has teamed up with Mercedes-AMG for a performance-rooted fusion of fashion and automotive engineering. It is the first time sacai has partnered with a luxury automobile brand, and showcases both labels’ design strengths, combining tradition and progression.
The collection comprises luxury ready-to-wear staples and accessories, including blousons, T-shirts, hoodies and accessories. At the heart of the offering is the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, also known as the “Red Pig.” It was a predecessor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and came to the starting line of the 24 Hours of Spa endurance racing event as an underdog, with the full-sized luxury sedan seeming outside of its natural habitat. Against all odds, the car finished in second place, solidifying Mercedes-Benz’s excellence in the worlds of both luxury and performance.











While the foundations of the collection are rooted in AMG history, the execution is very sacai. Dynamic badges are emblazoned across garments, directly reinterpreting the Red Pig’s motif through the Japanese designer’s creative codes.
sacai is known for its outside-of-the-box approach to proportion and its fusion of sportswear and couture techniques. Since being founded in 1999 by Chitose Abe, the brand has positioned itself at the intersection of high fashion and streetwear, with its strong, experimental collections received just as well as its more accessible sneaker collaborations. A capsule rooted in motor racing is the perfect extension of Abe’s innovative skill set and distinct designs, which are applied to performance-rooted apparel.
Michael Schiebe is the Mercedes-AMG CEO and feels the collaboration is “authentic to both brands’ DNA: innovative, disruptive and unique.” For Scheibe, the luxury coming together is an extension of the essence of AMG: “Our customers are connoisseurs, and the creation of bold brand experiences and one-of-a-kind luxury products, such as sacai x AMG, is at the heart of our brand.”
The sacai x Mercedes-AMG collection is available ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix, during Mercedes-AMG’s Speed City activation until 12 p.m. on November 17, and exclusively on Nordstrom.
