The last week has been dominated by dogmatic debates surrounding Donda vs Certified Lover Boy and whilst such attention is unarguably justified, both releases have eclipsed and totally overshadowed a lot of quality releases from less widely heralded sources to go undiscovered and under appreciated. With such a wide variety of releases swooping under the radar, it’s imperative that we pause to highlight the best production, lyricism and overall artistry exhibited by the best underground artist the music world has to offer. Whether it’s hidden gems, standout singles, revolutionary remixes or archetypal albums, come celebrate the overlooked exceptionalism and individualism of today’s best musicians with the CULTED Release Radar.

JORDS – OLD SCHOOL FLEX FT. D DOUBLE E & IZZY BIZU
The second single off Jords‘ highly anticipated third studio album has officially dropped. The ‘Glide’ MC has returned alongside an all-star supporting cast consisting of Grime pioneer and all-around national treasure D Double E and the wickedly talented vocals of Izzy Bizu to gift us his new single ‘Old School Flex’.

GREENTEA PENG – FREE MY PEOPLE (THE STREETS REMIX)
Whenever two generations of UK underground music collaborate it’s always a cause for celebration and ‘Free My People’ is no exception. Greentea Peng is rapidly becoming a standout voice of her generation and thus has attracted the attention of a previous era-defining voice in Mike Skinner from The Streets. This weird and wonderful tandem have united to bring us a remix of Greentea Peng’s most recent single ‘Free My People’.

BRU-C – MESMERISED
Few MC’s have captivated the UK DnB scene in recent years more than Bru-C and on a track like ‘Mesmerised’ it’s easy to see why. Smooth rapid-fire delivery layered over a heavy rolling riddim that would fit on any summer block party playlist. What more can we ask for?

RACHEL CHINOURIRI – IF ONLY
Rachel Chinouriri is on a rocket ship straight to the top following the success of her debut album Four Degrees In Winter and standout single ‘Darker Place’. The Croydon-based singer is continuing the momentum with her latest follow up single ‘If Only’ a mellow stripped back acoustic track that is perfect for those sleepy Sunday morning coffee moments.

BENNY THE BUTCHER – FLY WITH ME FT. CONWAY THE MACHINE
Griselda frontman Benny The Butcher is back with a new old-school hip-hop-inspired instrumental ‘Fly With Me’ that sees him team up with frequent collaborator Conway The Machine. This track comes straight off Benny’s brand new EP Pyrex Picasso as he continues to demonstrate his prolific writing ability after just delivering his previous EP The Plug I Met 2 just a few months ago.

GIDDYGANG – ALL EARS FT. VUYO
Swedish creative collective GiddyGang has dropped their second 6 track studio project Sour that showcases the production ingenuity of this steller 7 member group. Throughout the project, they team up with quick rising lyricist and MC Vuyo to craft a balanced and collaborative EP that highlights the strengths of all those involved without diminishing any part of their individual appeal.

TREBLE CLEF – BOUT DIS Ft. DEEJILLZ & ELF KID
East London Producer extraordinaire Trebel Clef has released his first track in four years and we are here for it! ‘Bout Dis’ is a boisterous yet understated riddim that radiates old-school Treble yet still feels contemporary and forward-thinking in its composition. He is joined by DeeJillz & Elf Kid as they deliver a quick-witted verse that feels effortless over a classic Treble Clef beat.

TEMS – CRAZY TINGS
After being introduced to a global audience on the track ‘Fountains’ from Drake’s album Certified Lover Boy, Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems is adamant about capitalising on her spotlight with her new single ‘Crazy Tings’. This track is beautiful composed with a gentle samba style percussion and watery guitar licks that string together perfectly as Temc glides across the pocket. ‘Crazy Tings’ are truly happening in Tems’s world and this track is only going to make her star shine even brighter.

EARTH, WIND & FIRE – YOU WANT MY LOVE Ft. LUCKY DAYE
Something must be in the water because more and more all-time great bands are once again returning to the studio to prove that talent only increases with age and experience. First ABBA, then The Rolling Stones, now Earth, Wind & Fire have released their first single since their Christmas Album dropped in 2014. Now, joined by New Orleans based R&B singer Lucky Daye, the masters of funk are back with ‘You Want My Love’, a smooth sultry song that feels like they never left.
