Pharrell knows how to put on a show. Debuting his first Louis Vuitton collection last night in Paris, the newly-appointed creative director gave us a whole bridge takeover, a ton of pixels and one hell of a memorable night. Let’s get into it.
Showcasing the SS24 collection on the first night of Paris Men’s Fashion Week, one hour late but let’s call it fashionably late, Pharrell’s debut was the most anticipated event of this fashion week, and after seeing the show, the wait was worth it.
The “LoVers” collection, spelt with a capital “V” as a tribute to Pharrell’s late friend and predecessor at LV Virgil Abloh, took place on the historic Pont Neuf, in the middle of Paris. The close vicinity was completely shut down just for the event and with all the celebs present that night, we wonder how much that security detail cost Louis Vuitton.
Clearly, Louis Vuitton doesn’t care about a budget. The bridge was decorated with the classic checked Damier print, golf carts were lugging out trunks of all sizes, an orchestra filled up the top of the runway before the Voices of Fire choir took over, created by Pharrell’s own uncle Bishop Ezekiel Williams.
That wasn’t the only industry link Pharrell brought to his big night. Everyone’s favourite celeb couple A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were there, with Rihanna wearing a custom Pharrell LV pixelated chequered jumpsuit and matching beanie, while Rocky pulled up in a denim two piece, with his trousers decorated with little silver LV logo embellishments.
We also saw Beyoncé and Jay Z vibing throughout the show next to LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault. That wasn’t it for Jay Z, who performed at the afterparty alongside Pharrell, wearing a studded version of the jacket the new creative director teased a few months back. Also in the music industry, Pusha T and Dave made their runway appearance alonside the models.
Kim Kardashian was also in attendance, wearing a pixel camo print tube top and leggings. We also saw Zendaya, Willow and Jaden Smith, Tyler, The Creator, Naomi Campbell in a full monogram look, Lenny Kravitz, Offset, Coi Leray, Megan Thee Stallion, J Balvin, Miguel, Jared Leto who bleached his brows for the occasion, Lewis Hamilton… the list goes on.
Safe to say, Pharrell’s debut for Louis Vuitton’s SS24 collection was a moment that will go down in fashion and pop culture history, and by the looks of our feeds, we’re not going to stop hearing about it any time soon.
