That’s right, Nike is bringing its Air Max world onto Fortnite. E-sports has never been taken so literally, with Nike creating an entire immersive gaming experience with Epic Games called “Airphoria” – we see what you did there, we’re into it.
Nike is a pioneer on so many levels, and its Fortnite invasion is just another sign of that. Using the gaming platform’s Unreal Editor for Fortnite, one of the first brands to do so, Nike is not only creating a partnership with Epic Games that will keep on giving, meaning you have a whole load more drops and exciting things in the pipe to look forward to, but also paving the way for the future of fashion and sportswear into the digital, gaming world.
So what exactly is Nike bringing to Fortnite? It’s a lot, so let’s dig in. Firstly, Airphoria is an entire island that will open for Fortnite players to visit between June 20 and 27. A place of creativity at its most digital, Airphoria is home to five iconic Air Max’s – the Air Max 1 OG, Air Max 97, Air Max TW, Air Max Scorpion and Air Max Pulse – seen suspended in the air. Never has an Air Max lived in such a universe, allowing Airphoria to live in, as Nike likes to call it, “Air State”.
And that’s not all. Nike is all about community, which is why players are able to deck themselves out in Fortnite-ified Nike clothing. Aerie and Maxxed Out Max are the two main characters of Airphoria’s story, and their fits are now available on the Fortnite Item Shop. The Pure Sole Boombox and Maxx Stacks Back Blings will also come as part of the Airphoria pack. Oh, and Nike is also releasing its own Airphoria-inspired collection on its own website, so if you’ve run out of V-bucks, you can use your real bucks.
Speaking on the link up, Vice President and General Manager of Nike Virtual Studio Ron Faris states “As digital and physical worlds become more seamless across the products and experiences we offer, we’re always seeking authentic ways to deepen our connection with fans, expand access points to Nike across our digital ecosystem and inspire a love of sport and play”.
Listen, those Nike IRL drops are getting harder and harder to get our hands on, but on Fortnite that’s no longer a problem – just make sure to log on in time for Airphoria’s island.
