Mental Health Is More Important Than Ever.

Going into 2020, the mental health of Millennials was looking bleak. And so far, the year hasn’t given us an easy time.
In an article for CNBC, Tess Brigham, a psychotherapist to Millennials, says quarantine as social distancing may have detrimental effects on our mental health. As virus cases grow by the hour, the economic outlook starts looking steadily worse, jobs are at risk and our social lives have been put on hold. Putting your mental health first is now more important than ever.
So, how to make sure you stay sane? Here are the best compiled tips as suggested by qualified therapists to help you look after your mental health:
First, try to continue your usual routine. If you’re working from home, get up early, have breakfast and get ready for the day. Take regular breaks and proper meals. Try to maintain a regular sleep schedule.
Second, focus on the positives. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed by constant negative news, and try, as Tess puts it, to “embrace the uncertainties.” There’s no way of knowing the future for sure, so obsessing over it won’t help. Take every day day-by-day.
Third, stay active. Do YouTube Yoga, learn a TikTok dance, jump on the bed, play with your pets. All great options to move your body and when you start feeling stir-crazy, go for a walk (but stay safe).
Fourth, as well as physically, stay mentally active. Learn a new skill, such as playing an instrument, painting, makeup or cooking.
Finally, do not isolate completely. Call your friends and family every day, and get creative with how you stay in touch. Play games with friends on Houseparty, or throw a Netflix Party and watch movies together virtually.
