We’re all just starting to build our wardrobes and invest in good staple pieces that will last for years to come, and one of these grailed items (at least on our lists) is a good, sturdy bomber. To save you from doom scrolling on SSENSE, here are five that you’ll wear for life.
The Avirex MA-1 Bomber

You know that you’ve got the best bomber jacket when you get it from the brand that supplied them for the US Air Force. Avirex’s civilian model of the MA-1 has all the classic details, including the orange lining and flap pockets, but with a more oversized silhouette. The technical details, like the oxygen mask tabs and communication cable loops, go crazy. And it’s reversible. You can buy new, or check out Depop, eBay and vintage stores as there’s a lot of vintage options. There’s one up on Known Source as we speak.
The Entire Studios Broad Bomber Oil

Among fashion mfs, Entire Studios has the best rep. The label, founded by Yeezy alumni Sebastian Hunt and Dylan Richards, brings the best day-to-day uniform pieces with an elevated look for all us fashion bros. The Broad Bomber Oil (also available in a hooded version) is crafted with black nylon and an oversized fit, enhanced with shoulder pads, that will pair well with basically everything. At $559, it’s an investment, but you’ll definitely wear the sh*t out of it.

The Alpha Industries MA-1 Bomber

This reversible bomber by Alpha Industries is a nod to OG MA-1 flight jackets. The classic, durable nylon silhouette has a baggy, boxy fit and a ruched design on the arms on the black side, and a softer outlook when you wear it on the orange side. It’s a go-to staple for every day and at £170, it won’t break the bank. You can also find some great options second-hand.
The Martine Rose Shrunken Bomber

We’re usually sceptical of logos on uniform pieces, cos what if it ages badly? But if it’s Martine Rose, it won’t. The British designer’s padded bomber has ruched sleeves and the designer’s signature logo in faded gold on the back. It’s slightly cropped, which makes it a more interesting silhouette, and has a classic bomber orange lining. And it’s got a special Martine Rose patch on the back of the lining. If you f with Martine, you’ll f with this jacket.
The Carhartt WIP Olten Bomber

Carhartt WIP knows how to do the best utilitywear. The only collared jacket in this curation, the Olten Bomber is made from water-repellent nylon, with a military-inspired silhouette based on the classic MA-2 bomber. It’s cinched well, it’s got good pockets and it’s insulated. What more can you ask for?
