First teased at AVAVAV’s SS25 show at Milan Fashion Week (yk, the runway where the models were literally running track), the AVAVAV and adidas Originals collab has finally dropped.
With a range of black and red three-striped tight-fit hooded tops, flared trackies, convertible “Superfinger” Superstars, a leather bag, and more, this collection is an homage to the cult of adidas. And once again the Eastern European-inspired adidas aesthetic doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
Since Balenciaga’s first adidas collab in 2022, rooted in the tracksuit culture of Demna’s Eastern European heritage, adidas trackies Demna-style have been a major part of the fashion zeitgeist in the 2020s.
“From the beginning of our partnership, I was encouraged to ‘make fun’ of adidas,” said AVAVAV creative director Beate Karlsson, adding that there’s so much irony in how seriously we take sports and fashion. Through her designs, Karlsson is commenting on fashion’s current obsession with adidas trackies, through models running short-distance in her runway show, and playing football in the campaign “The Worst Game You’ve Ever Seen” while wearing the four-fingered Superstars.
The collection is fun, trippy (watch us trip with these finger appendages) and doesn’t take itself too seriously. These are the collabs that go the hardest, icl.
