Since Nigo was announced as the next creative director of KENZO, there has been a considerable amount of hype surrounding the brand. Far from an empty, misplaced hire, the decision to appoint Nigo as KENZO’s new creative director actually made a lot of sense. Not only is he a pioneer in the streetwear spaces, having collaborated with luxury brands and helping to shift the industry’s perception of what fashion could be, he also possesses a deep and personal appreciation for both Takada Kenzo and the Maison itself.
This was evidenced in his debut show for KENZO, which drew a crowd of familiar faces who were eager to see the designer’s take. Presenting a cohesive, successful collection which elevated and propelled the house’s classic design tropes into today’s age, it was clear that Nigo is here to build upon the already established Kenzo reputation, bringing his wealth of experience with him.

Now, the designer has released the third drop (out of 4) in a series of limited-edition capsule collections for SS22 – and this is the most comprehensive one yet. For this drop, Nigo looked to denim – a key element in his own design tradition. Pairing the material with his KENZO flower symbol, the capsule consists of 15 genderless pieces.
We see denim jackets, tops, trousers and skirts all embellished with patch and pocket detailing, as well as a series of overshirts and tees which keep things grounded in wearability. The collection is also in homage to Takada Kenzo in that it revolves around the idea of the natural elements that were key to the brand’s founder – such as drawing on the significance of plants in shaping symbols and feelings.
Check out the full drop on April 2nd on the brand’s website, as well as in store.
