What you missed from Tokyo Fashion Week FW25

You thought we were done with the fashion week content? Think again. Tokyo Fashion Week’s FW25 has just ended, and the designers were too good. From tech-forward utilitarian brand Hidesign’s new innovations to models cycling on the runway at Kamiya, here’s the best of what went down.

This one was insane. Showing at a Go-Kart track in Tokyo Bay, Kamiya’s models didn’t walk, they cycled on the runway. The collection embedded grunge elements in its streetwear with flannels, oversized denims and mohair knits, and the bouclé details were too good.

Basicks upcycled Levi’s denim into subverted pieces with the back pockets in the front, men’s shirts were created into halter tops, basketballs were carried as bags, and skirts were made out of belts.

“We would like to prepare humanity for the future to come,” said the brand. Hidesign’s utilitarian garments got even more technical this season with a new temperature-regulating fabric and cold silhouettes.

Wizzard was a wizz in layering fr. The brand showed jorts over jeans and layered multiple jackets and flannels, as well as baggy Japanese utility silhouettes in trousers in different materials.

This Japanese designer teased a Barbie collab (models carried Barbies or wore them in their hair) with her collection which was filled with tulle, balloon silhouettes, and a range of textured pinks in furs and denim (to match the Barbie element).

Houga showed a lot of ruffles, in flowy, structured balloon silhouettes, which embraced hyper-feminine elements, but juxtaposed it with grunge motifs with upcycled bombers and checked suits.

Designer Keisuke Nagami is known for his fusion of fashion and computer science. His pieces are usually futuristic inspired by technology and this season was no different, using a range of softwares to create his pleats and prints.

Amok went crazy with the headpieces – which were made from gold chains and beads, twigs, feathers, and soft fabrics. The head-gear matched the energy of the furs, colourful knitwear and textures of the looks.
