Japanese fine jewellery house TASAKI is entering a new chapter, unveiling a refreshed global identity that puts its heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary approach to design at the forefront. With a renewed emphasis on its Japanese roots, the brand is looking to strengthen its international presence while celebrating the traditions that have shaped its identity for decades.
Founded in Kobe in 1954, TASAKI's history stretches back to 1933, when pearl cultivation began in the waters surrounding Nagasaki's Ninety-Nine Islands. Unlike many of its contemporaries, the house remains directly involved in both the cultivation of its pearls and their transformation into fine jewellery, maintaining a connection between nature and craftsmanship that continues to inform its collections.
This relationship with the natural world is becoming increasingly central to TASAKI's visual identity. Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese aesthetics, the house is exploring themes of simplicity, repetition and abstraction, alongside the concept of "mitate," which encourages familiar objects to be viewed from unexpected perspectives. Its signature TASAKI Blue will also remain a defining feature, with the distinctive blue-green shade referencing the coastal waters where its pearls originate.
Alongside its renewed appreciation for heritage, TASAKI is doubling down on the more experimental side of its jewellery. Designer Thakoon Panichgul, the creative mind behind the house's recognisable BALANCE and DANGER collections, has returned as Artistic Advisor. His involvement signals a continued commitment to challenging conventional jewellery design, bringing a playful, contemporary attitude to traditional materials.
Speaking on the brand's direction, Global CEO Richard Collasse explained: "Our ambition is to establish TASAKI as the first truly Japanese luxury house recognised around the world. Not by imitating European models, but by embracing what makes us profoundly and unmistakably Japanese."
Global Chief Brand Officer Aika N. Sawai echoed that ambition, highlighting the importance of introducing TASAKI's distinctive approach to a new audience. "Just as BALANCE reimagined how modern women wear pearls, my ambition is to bring TASAKI's unique sensibility to a new generation and a wider global audience," she said.
The transformation first began appearing across TASAKI's global social media channels in September, with further developments planned across campaigns, digital platforms, retail spaces and brand experiences. For TASAKI, the next chapter is about taking the qualities that have defined the house for generations and introducing them to a much wider international audience.
