Prada is taking another step towards reducing textile waste, introducing two new initiatives that give leftover cashmere and wool a fresh purpose.
Following the success of its Re-Nylon programme, the Italian fashion house is extending its approach to recycled materials with the launch of Re-Cashmere and Re-Wool. Both projects form part of Prada's Fall/Winter 2026 offering, turning excess fibres from its own manufacturing operations into new ready-to-wear pieces.
Prada is looking at what already exists within its production network. Unused fabric, leftover yarn and manufacturing offcuts are collected from facilities including the brand's knitwear production site in Torgiano, Italy, before being processed into new textiles.
The process begins by separating the recovered fibres according to colour, removing the need for additional chemical dyeing. The materials are then prepared and spun into new yarns, ready to be transformed into garments at specialist workshops across Tuscany and Umbria.
Re-Cashmere focuses on knitwear, introducing a selection of men's and women's sweaters made using 100% GRS-certified recycled cashmere and SFA-certified sustainable raw materials. Re-Wool takes a slightly different approach, combining recycled wool and cashmere with RWS-certified virgin wool to create a wider wardrobe of structured trousers, jackets, skirts and dresses.
Each garment is fitted with an NFC tag connected to the Aura Blockchain Consortium, allowing customers to access a digital certificate that provides information about the product's authenticity, material origins and manufacturing journey.
Because the collections depend on the amount of surplus material available, production quantities are naturally restricted. This means the number of garments produced is determined by existing textile waste rather than an unlimited supply of newly manufactured fabric.
The launch builds on Prada's wider efforts to incorporate recycled materials into its collections, applying the principles established through Re-Nylon to more traditional luxury textiles.
With Re-Cashmere and Re-Wool, the house is demonstrating how existing resources can be reintroduced into the fashion cycle without abandoning the craftsmanship and everyday functionality associated with its ready-to-wear.
Both collections are available now through Prada's website and selected boutiques worldwide.
