Louis Vuitton is pushing one of its most recognisable travel objects into unfamiliar territory, transforming the traditional trunk into a study in marine-inspired craftsmanship for its Men’s Spring-Summer 2027 collection.
Created under Pharrell Williams’ direction, the High Trunks project takes the historic Courrier Lozine 110 and reworks it through an assortment of intricate materials, specialist techniques and sculptural finishes. It's a series of highly elaborate pieces that translate the collection’s oceanic influences into objects that sit somewhere between luggage, furniture and collectible art.
The project also draws a direct line between Louis Vuitton’s archive and its more experimental present. The House has referenced its 1905 Monogram patent, which permitted the signature pattern to be adapted across different colours, dimensions and materials. For the High Trunks, that principle becomes an opportunity to radically reinterpret the Monogram without losing the visual language that has defined the House for generations.
Among the most intricate examples is the Leather Marquetry “Under the Sea” Courrier Lozine 110. Its exterior depicts an underwater ecosystem populated by coral, fish and marine vegetation, assembled from more than 1,500 individually shaped pieces of leather. More than 35 different leathers were selected for their contrasting textures and tones, while metallic corners inspired by seashells reinforce the aquatic concept.
Another standout takes an even more tactile approach. Developed with a French marquetry specialist, the Mother of Pearl Marquetry trunk incorporates over 2,000 individually cut fragments of sustainably sourced mother of pearl into smoked larch. As light moves across the surface, the material gives the Monogram a constantly shifting appearance, turning the pattern into something closer to a reflective landscape than a conventional graphic.
The Chrome Wave Courrier Lozine 110 moves the collection into more futuristic territory. Transparent acrylic is shaped into undulating forms before the Monogram is laser-engraved across its surface. Multiple chrome finishes create a reflective exterior, beneath which fluorescent Monogram flowers can be seen. Inside, the highly contemporary construction gives way to a more traditional cream VVN leather lining.
Elsewhere, Louis Vuitton continues experimenting with the relationship between its heritage silhouettes and unconventional materials. The Liquid Python versions of the Courrier Lozine 110 and Coffret 8 Montres are covered in hand-finished python designed to evoke the appearance of flowing water, while the Summer Captions trunk uses translucent acrylic to recreate the warmth and changing tones of a sunset by the sea.
The collection also introduces several new forms. The LV Turtle Trunk reimagines the traditional travel case through a more sculptural silhouette, while the Neo Briefcase Trunk brings the visual language of luggage into a contemporary everyday format. The Mini Malle Bijoux further shifts the focus towards collecting, creating a compact object intended to carry and display precious personal pieces.
Taken together, the High Trunks demonstrate how far Louis Vuitton can stretch one of its most enduring signatures. Rather than simply applying the Monogram to new surfaces, the project physically reconstructs it through leatherwork, wood, shell, acrylic and metal, allowing the pattern to become part of the architecture of each object.
First presented during the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring-Summer 2027 show, the High Trunks are now being offered through selected Louis Vuitton locations around the world and via the House’s Savoir Rêver events. Several of the most elaborate editions, including the Mother of Pearl Marquetry, Chrome Wave, Summer Captions and Liquid Python Courrier Lozine 110, are available to order with lead times of around ten months, while additional designs are scheduled to arrive from January 2027.
