Nina Christen, the footwear designer behind the cult Loewe balloon heels, a handful of Bottega boots, and the current shoe collection at The Row, has officially joined Dior as design director of shoes.
The Zurich-based designer announced her appointment on her IG with the caption: “Incredibly excited to support Jonathan Anderson in this new chapter at Dior.”
After graduating from the Institut Français de la Mode, Nina Christen started her career out at Saint Laurent as a shoe designer, and then moved on to work at Celine under Phoebe Philo. She headed up footwear design at Dries Van Noten, Bottega Veneta (working under Daniel Lee), Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe, and most recently The Row. She also launched her own shoe label, Christen, this year.

Christen’s work features the Bottega Puddle Boots and the intrecciato Lido sandals, the inflated balloon pumps at Loewe, those trouser-looking boots at Loewe (you know the ones), and a range of exquisitely crafted footwear at The Row and her own label. Her work has built a rep as one of the most innovative designers in luxury shoes, with her excellent taste plus major experience in good craftsmanship. With such a good CV under her sleeve, the designer is about to do some insane work at Dior.
