For Spring/Summer 2027, MM6 Maison Margiela took the everyday wardrobe and started moving things around. Shirts became dresses, trousers transformed into miniskirts and sweaters migrated from the torso to the waist. The pieces themselves remained familiar, but where and how they were worn was completely up for negotiation.
That playful approach gave the collection an almost childlike quality. Shirts were folded and repositioned, dresses revealed their construction and sweaters worn as skirts gained volume around the hips. Smaller proportions appeared elsewhere through tiny tops, vintage-looking shorts and shrunken pieces that gave some looks an almost doll-like quality.
Menswear received the same treatment, although sometimes through much smaller interventions. Collars and button plackets slipped away from their usual positions, tuxedo stripes appeared where you wouldn't expect them and familiar trousers were made noticeably slimmer. Tailoring, biker jackets, T-shirts and other staples remained recognisable throughout, but something was nearly always slightly out of place.
Gloves were transformed into bags and footwear, while its Havaianas collaboration played with the humble flip-flop by multiplying soles and even messing with the number of toes. One version stacked six flip-flops on top of one another, turning perhaps the simplest shoe imaginable into something ridiculous, chunky and unmistakably MM6.
