Lily Collins Is Solving the Eternal Question: “What Do I Wear?”

Titled “Inner Voices”, the campaign takes viewers inside Collins’ mind.

Zalando

Zalando is putting the familiar chaos of getting dressed under the spotlight with its new Autumn/Winter 2026 campaign, bringing Lily Collins together with designer Bella Freud and fashion commentator Nicky Campbell for a playful take on the question almost everyone has asked themselves: what am I going to wear?

Titled “Inner Voices”, the campaign takes viewers inside Collins’ mind as she works through a particularly high-stakes wardrobe decision. Zalando imagines Collins’ internal debate as a visual control room, where Freud and Campbell act as an unconventional style council helping her navigate the options.

Freud takes on the role of the composed voice of confidence, offering calm and reassurance as Collins weighs up her choices, while Campbell provides a sharper, deadpan perspective. Together, the pair effectively externalise the competing thoughts that can accompany even the simplest decision about getting dressed.

Behind the campaign is director Melina Matsoukas, the two-time Grammy Award winner known for her work across music and film. Her involvement takes Zalando's latest campaign into more cinematic territory, with the project marking the first time the platform has used a long-form film as part of one of its campaigns. It's positioned somewhere between fashion film and situational comedy, using the frantic nature of a wardrobe dilemma as the basis for its narrative.

For Collins, the concept taps into an experience that is more universal.“We all ask ourselves ‘What do I wear?’ every single day,” she says, describing the campaign as an exploration of the “beautiful chaos” behind making that decision. She also highlights the chemistry between Freud and Campbell, with their contrasting personalities becoming the two sides of her imagined style debate.

The campaign continues Zalando's relationship with Collins, who serves as the company's global brand ambassador. It also introduces Freud and Campbell into her fashion world, with the trio appearing across the campaign's hero film and accompanying imagery.

Alongside the main films, Zalando has produced a series of candid still photographs showing the talent in their final moments of getting ready before heading out. Rather than focusing solely on the finished look, the imagery is intended to capture the point immediately before the decision has been made — the moment where uncertainty gives way to confidence.

“Inner Voices” launched across Zalando's channels on August 30 and is rolling out across its markets.
