Lewis Hamilton is going full-throttle with Dior

Lewis Hamilton has been announced as a Dior brand ambassador and guest designer. Working with Artistic Director Kim Jones, the Formula 1 meets fashion design duo have crafted a lifestyle capsule, celebrating the meticulous design approach of couture through practical garments centred around functionality.

As far as brand ambassadors go, this one makes a lot of sense given Hamilton’s relationship with Kim Jones, whom he met backstage at Paris Fashion Week while Jones was designing for Louis Vuitton. In recent years, Hamilton, who is a regular on the front row, has helped further push fashion into the zeitgeist with his hard-hitting on and off-track looks.

The Seven-Time Formula 1 World Champion focused on “conscious choices [to push] boundaries with each piece,” looking to his African roots and belief in natural materials to bring a powerful energy to the collection. With buckle-closure backpacks, loose-fitting denim, and goggles, the co-designed collection merges Dior’s savoir-faire with Jones’ signature contemporary design approach.

The Lewis Hamilton for Dior collection is centred around winter sports and movement. It spans casual suiting, crafted from traditional Dior tweeds, African weaves, slouchy denim, knits, sweats, and fleeces. Other highlights include the B44 Blade and Snow sneakers, which are geared up for snowboarding and in line with Hamilton's approach to the capsule.

Kim Jones and Lewis Hamilton share a love of nature, a “desire to celebrate Africa, and an interest in the artisanal processes and techniques that unite craftspeople in Africa with the savoir-faire of the Dior ateliers,” Jones shared.

The Lewis Hamilton-designed Dior capsule will be available in boutiques and on the Dior website on October 17.
