At a party in São Paulo to kick off the launch, we got the chance to ask Isabel Marant what’s at the core of the collab and how the Isabel Marant girl is spending her summer. Reinterpreting a Havaianas classic with an Isabel Marant twist, the classic flip-flop is transformed with Marant’s iconic prints and textured finishes into beach-ready accessories that are light, wearable, and effortless. When we asked why it made sense to combine the aesthetics of her brand with Havaianas', Marant told us, "I think we're [from] two very different worlds, but at the same time it’s the same spirit. For me, it’s about freedom, comfort, [and] things that will last forever, that you never get fed up with up. I mean, Havaianas are so iconic, it’s a real dream for me this collaboration."
As Isabel Marant explained, the entire ethos behind the collection is centred around comfort, something both brands prioritise in every design. "When we’re speaking about comfort, this is a must for me in fashion. You can have the most beautiful thing, but if you’re not comfortable in it, you will not go for it. I think nowadays we are less and less ready to compromise with comfort."
Designed with spontaneity in mind, the sandals prioritise comfort as much as they value style, made for those last minute trips from the city to the beach and back again. “[An Isabel Marant girl summer is about] freedom," Marant explained. "Not having any plans, and going through a day like a journey that you start and you don’t know how it’s going to end.” That's what is collaboration is about.
