Fashion and skating have enjoyed a long and illustrious relationship, with brands and designers borrowing from the sport and subculture to inform collections, brand identity and overarching ethos’ for years. One area where this is heavily pronounced is in the footwear department: with the skate shoe becoming an integral part of luxury and fashion collections alike.
In part, fashion’s fascination with skate culture is thanks to the community’s laidback attitude towards, well, everything. Whether it be the sneakers we wear or the jeans we opt for day-to-day, skate culture’s influence on fashion cannot be understated. Take Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton, which produces skate-ready sneakers, linking up with London skater Lucien Clarke for a collaborative model. There’s also Lanvin’s famous ‘The Curb’ silhouette, as well as classic Nike dunks being unofficially taken from the Basketball courts to the skate ramps.
It’s also down to skating’s disruptive culture: at its core, the subculture champions an alternative attitude, which plays out in the skate shoes we’ve compiled for you here. Scroll to take a look at our selection.
