Francesca Murri's Fiorucci SS26 show knows how to have fun

Ahead of Fiorucci’s SS26 show, which transformed models into “living artworks” via a collaboration with artist Janina Zaïs, we caught up with creative director Francesca Murri to find out more about the brand’s new era. On the runway this season, Fiorucci - having recently undergone a transformation under Murri - revealed everything from body paint to toy poodles. The brand’s famous love of the playful and whimsical was ever-present, as seen in lip-shaped tops, cherub body art, and popcorn graphics. Linking up with Francesca Murri, we got to hear more about the inspiration behind the collection, her favourite pieces this season, and what’s next for Fiorucci. Keep reading to find out.

Can you talk us through the inspiration behind this season’s collection?

"The inspiration is connected to the idea of pure watching. Like a kid is watching people and life around him while he is playing on the the streets, and imagining - with a free mind and imagination - a surreal world made from cartoon/reality, real and unreal, pretending to be in a movie, where the actors are people in the street, seen from another prospective.

"For a kid, everything is still possible - preconceptions don't exist about different skin colour, or origin - they're just looking for some good friends play with. In this show Fiorucci invites the people to see the reality through a child's eyes, use that creativity and imagination to envision create a better place, and invite them to love the others like them are."

Fiorucci has such an iconic legacy - did you reference any specific moments or archive looks?

"Yes, I started from an iconic dress red with pois white, from the beginning of 1980. [In this look,] surrealism and fairytale merge into an iconic dress!"

What’s your favourite piece from the FW26 collection?

"For sure the pois dress, the poodles all over printer denim, and the lips bag."

Craftsmanship is always at the forefront of Fiorucci. Can you share any of the finer details from the FW26 collection that might not be immediately noticeable?

"I love to play with Easter Eggs, for example, the vertical stripes print are interrupted by pop corn explosion…just one! Or the pois all over printed some times are heart shaped…"

What’s next for Fiorucci in 2025?

"We will work on different activations and collaborations. The idea is to reach out our targeted consumer throughout creative and surprising activations and so to play with more eclectic format to a show to offer a proper Fiorucci experience."
