In recent years, Balenciaga and massive sneakers have become two peas in an XXL pod, and the brand-new Circuit sneaker is a sporty, streamlined, but still huge take on a fashiony runner.
This Demna-designed gym shoe reimagines a workout sneaker with bold proportions, merging comfort with conceptual design. And if you’re wondering why it's called the Circuit sneaker, there are two reasons. One is that it is named after workout circuits, the type that involves rotating through different exercises that target different areas of the body. The second is the repeated activity required in an electric current. We'll let you choose your favourite.
In campaign shots, Balenciaga showed us that it's not about how many times you make it to the gym. It's about how good you look when you think about going to the gym. Portraits captured by Chris Lensz showcase models sitting down in a domestic setting, staring out the camera. Balenciaga’s take on everyone’s favourite pre-gym pick-me-up (coffee, in case you’re wondering) makes an appearance via a Balenciaga-branded coffee cup, adding a chic, sporty caffeine injection.
This isn’t the first time Balenciaga has given us athletic takes on uber-chic sportswear, either. For its uber LA Fall/Winter 2024 show, which took place in Hollywood in front of a Kardashian-filled front row, the collection saw a collaboration with Erewhon and leggings-clad models who donned 10XL sneakers on foot. And how could we forget Cardi B's runway appearance to complete the Hollywood experience?
