Sustainability in fashion has become something of a buzzword: the reality is, the most sustainable option is to not buy at all. However, with brands committed to reducing their carbon footprint, taking up recycled materials and offsetting emissions, luckily there seems to be an emerging sustainably-minded option for the material girls who want to continue to shop consciously.
With Earth Day coming up on the 22nd, we’re highlighting some of the brands getting it right. From tops made of seaweed, to headphones forged from plastic waste, it's clear that most industries are adjusting their practices with the planet in mind. Olivia Rubens and Machine-A have partnered on a new collection (‘Photosynthesise’) which takes things further: creating living and breathing garments which are coated in photosynthetic pigments. Using waste material to construct the collection, each piece emits oxygen, absorbs carbon dioxide and requires misting and sunlight to ‘survive’ - and you can wear it as a bally. Win win.
