Baby Girl’s Harris Dickinson is a director now

British actor and internet boyfriend Harris Dickinson is set to make his directorial debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May, per Cannes delegate general Thierry Frémaux and president Iris Knobloch. The actor, who rose to fame after playing Nicole Kidman’s kinky younger love interest in A24’s erotic thriller Baby Girl, has directed a film called Urchin, which follows a drifter around London.

Ofc, it’s not unusual for actors to try out directing: there’s a long-established pipeline between the two disciplines (if an actor is directed constantly, they’re bound to learn a thing or two on the job). Indeed, other actors who have made the leap include Ben Stiller, who recently directed Severance and Bradley Cooper, who was behind the camera as well as in front of it in A Star is Born. This year’s Cannes 2025 will even see Scarlett Johansson make her directorial debut via Eleanor the Great, a movie about a 90-year-old female protagonist from Florida who strikes up a friendship with a student in NYC.

Ofc, having only risen to major prominence over the past few years, Dickinson is making the switch younger than most, so it will be nice to see some young, fresh ideas on screen.
