Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are heading into animation together.
Illumination has just unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming feature, ‘Not Alone.’ A sci-fi adventure movie that reunites the pair on the screen for the first time since 2018’s ‘A Rainy Day in New York’, while also marking Chalamet's first leading voice role in an animated film.
Set against the backdrop of an intergalactic adventure, ‘Not Alone’ follows Joe, a reserved rocket mechanic voiced by Chalamet, whose quiet routine is turned upside down when he meets Fran, an ambitious astro-botanist played by Gomez. Together, the pair are preparing to launch a revolutionary spacecraft powered entirely by plants, but their mission is quickly thrown off course when three mischievous alien stowaways secretly board the rocket, sending them on an unexpected journey across the galaxy.
The extraterrestrial trio is voiced by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou, while Brett Goldstein appears as Officer Zandro, an intergalactic law enforcer determined to bring the runaway aliens home. Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris round out the voice cast, giving the film an ensemble packed with established names from both film and comedy.
For Chalamet, ‘Not Alone’ arrives during one of the busiest periods of his career. Over the last two years, the actor has continued to cement himself as one of Hollywood's biggest leading men through roles in ‘Dune: Part Three’, Josh Safdie's table tennis drama ‘Marty Supreme’, and the Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’.
Gomez, meanwhile, continues to balance acting, music and entrepreneurship. Fresh from another acclaimed run in ‘Only Murders in the Building’, she has also expanded her film career while remaining one of pop culture's most recognisable figures through her work with Rare Beauty and recent musical releases. ‘Not Alone’ adds another animated credit to her growing résumé and reunites her with Chalamet almost a decade after the pair first shared the screen.
Produced by Illumination, the studio behind blockbuster franchises including ‘Despicable Me’, ‘Minions’, and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, ‘Not Alone’ blends romance, comedy and science fiction into an original family adventure.
The newly released trailer offers a first glimpse at the film's colourful visual style, teasing an offbeat story filled with slapstick humour, unlikely friendships and plenty of extraterrestrial chaos ahead of its cinema release in April 2027.
