Billionaires have a bad rap in today’s society, widely known to hoard disproportionate amounts of wealth and contribute to social and economic inequalities. It’s going to be hard, but we’re now going to have to treat Rihanna the same as we do Jeff Bezos, as the musician-turned-beauty mogul has been announced to have billionaire status by Forbes.
The valuation puts Rihanna as the world’s wealthiest beauty entrepreneur, female musician and the second most valuable female entertainer, with only Oprah Winfrey being ahead.
While the general opinion of billionaires is wholly negative, there’s some comfort to be had in the fact that Rihanna has attained this level of wealth and success all while pushing progressive ideals of diversity and inclusivity. The valuation is mostly the result of LVMH’s heavy investment in the Savage x Fenty and Fenty Beauty brands, with the latter company estimated to be worth $2.8 billion on its own.
Whether or not your opinion of Rihanna is positive or negative, we can all agree that she’s doing God’s work in pushing the envelope for beauty and fashion brands, laying foundations for new blood to come in and enact even more positive change. One would be hard pressed to find a label that is as big a proponent of diversity as Fenty, and one would be hard pressed to find as deserving a billionaire as Rihanna – let’s give her a round of applause at the very least.
