What is Dr. Martens’ Genix Nappa collection all about?

What is Dr. Martens’ Genix Nappa collection all about?

Dr. Martens is known for its leather footwear, which has been worn by just about anyone cool since the ’60s. Now, it’s doing something new with its Genix collection, made from reclaimed leather.

If you like the sound of that, here are the details. The Genix collection has been launched as part of Dr. Martens’ initiative to tackle leather waste by crafting some of the English shoemaker’s classic styles from reclaimed leather offcuts that would otherwise be destined for landfill. It has a lower carbon impact than traditional leather and is engineered to ensure it is just as durable, comfortable and long-lasting as any other Dr. Martens shoe. DMs is one of the first leather boot brands to use this initiative, so it’s a pretty big deal.

We were lucky enough to nab a pair and see if they could stand up to everything Culted could throw at them. To kick things off, we went to a meeting before making a coffee pit stop in rainy Soho. Next, we powered through the April showers and puddle-packed streets to the Tube. So far, so good.

As is always the case in London, by the time we got to our destination, the sun showed its face, which was perfect. By this point, the Genix Nappa 1460 boots were starting to break in and felt pretty good, with the AirWair sole keeping us comfortable. We headed to the office because there was the usual Culted goodness to crack on with, including feature writing and a couple of TikToks to make. All that tippy tapping on the keyboard worked up an appetite. So, a blueberry muffin was acquired, and then it was back to work. When it was time to head home, it felt right to jump on a bike and soak up the last bit of sunshine, and they held up great.

@bahram.yara AD Come with me as I go thrifting wearing the new @Dr. Martens Genix Nappa range. Genix Nappa is a new material engineered from reclaimed leather offcuts to create long-lasting footwear without compromising on style and durability. This range features 3 iconic Dr. Martens styles including the 1460 boots I am wearing – a classic boot that is also made of reclaimed leather, what’s not to love? #drmartens ♬ Write This Down (Instrumental) – SoulChef

But it wasn’t just us that gave them a go. Sustainability-focused Anna Cain, Bahram Yara, and Vivien Tang got in on the action, too.  Anna is a Barcelona-based content creator with a passion for biomaterials. She showed us how she styled the Genix collection, customising them with her own charms and breaking them in on the sunny Barcelona Streets.

Bahram is a mindful fashion and lifestyle creator with a mega eye for menswear. He wore his 1460 boots for a day of vintage shopping in London, picking up a trench coat and running away from the rain while re-upping his wardrobe.

@sugar.and.sliime glad to see Dr. Martens proving their dedication to sustainability through material innovation! With Genix Nappa I don’t need to compromise my pact to only buy recycled/second hand items. 🖤 #ad #drmartens @Dr. Martens #sustainablefashion ♬ Lofi – Tollan Kim

Vivien owns Vivien’s Vintage in Shoreditch, and the Dr. Martens Genix Nappa collection was perfect for days spent moving stock from the store to the warehouse. Each video shows the durability of the Genix Nappa collection, which can hold its own no matter what happens.

The Dr. Martens Genix Nappa collection is just one of the circularity initiatives the brand has implemented to achieve its mission of being net zero by 2040. If it sounds like a bit of you, it is available online and in Dr. Martens stores.
