As Y2K icon Sharpay once sang, “it’s out with the old, and in with the new” – and after that Diesel show, we couldn’t agree more. Although the Miu Miu set was groundbreaking, we can’t help but think it’s had its moment now – with Nicole Kidman sporting it on the cover of Vanity Fair probably being the last straw. Alongside users taking over twitter with memes about how much they’ve seen it, its space at the top of every it-girl’s dream wardrobe was dying for a replacement, and Glenn Martens may just have provided it.
Arguably the standout looks from the Diesel show in Milan yesterday were the micro-mini leather belt skirts, embossed with the brand’s initial. Coming in worn brown leather as well as red leather and fabric iterations, the skirt is also worn low-slung on the hips, and its belt-like silhouette showcased Martens’ confident vision for the once semi-obscure brand.
Paired with a fitted leather motorbike jacket, black leather gloves and knee-high boots, this set will be existing in my heart until it has the means to exist in my wardrobe – and we can see it becoming the go-to Martens Diesel look when it hits stores later this year.
