The Design Museum in London has officially unveiled “From Japan With Love,” a major new exhibition dedicated to NIGO, offering one of the most comprehensive presentations of his work to date.
Now open to the public, the exhibition assembles hundreds of objects drawn from NIGO’s personal archive, mapping out a career that has helped shape the global streetwear landscape. From his early ventures to later projects that bridged the gap into luxury, the show traces how his creative approach has evolved while maintaining a consistent cultural perspective.
Rather than focusing solely on clothing, the exhibition expands into the broader ecosystem that informs NIGO’s work. Visitors move through a series of immersive spaces that explore his influences and personal history, including a reconstruction of his teenage bedroom, offering insight into the music, imagery, and references that shaped his early vision. Alongside this are displays that highlight his interest in craftsmanship, design, and collecting, including works that connect contemporary fashion with traditional techniques.
The exhibition also emphasises the cultural threads that run through NIGO’s career. References to vintage Americana, hip-hop, and Japanese subcultures are woven throughout, illustrating how he has consistently drawn from and reinterpreted different worlds to create something distinct. In doing so, the show positions him as a cultural figure whose impact extends far beyond clothing.
Running throughout the summer, “From Japan With Love” offers London audiences a rare opportunity to engage with the full scope of NIGO’s creative output, capturing both the origins of his work and its lasting impact on fashion and contemporary culture.
