First seen on the runway for Prada’s FW21 collection, the Padded Nylon Slippers instantly caught our eye here at CULTED. Featuring a quilted nylon upper and a toggle strap to ensure your feet stay in place and warm, the hate-it-or-love-it shoe is priced at US$905 (APPROX.) / £650. But with any odd fashion item comes the inevitable dread of how to style it. For this installment of CULTED CURATES, the team has picked out outfits, each to their own style, based around the slipper. If you end up buying the Prada piece, or any of our suggested items, DM us on IG or use #cultedfits.

Not going to lie, these slippers look very comfortable, yet practical, thanks to the toggle rope lacing and of course the quilted nylon material. I went for a chilled feel with my outfit – after all, if you’re wearing these, you’re likely dressing for comfort. I love Maison Margiela’s knits, oversized and soft, and I can just imagine this cardigan layered over a laid back outfit. I feel the pockets on the loose fitting Bianca Saunders trousers work well as they flow well with the practical aspect. To pull the look together I have added some other dark touches through a Supreme pouch/bag and a dark chain. Overall, it’s a pale outfit, which highlights the slippers while not letting them dominate the whole look. Out of comfort and practicality, I think I have achieved at least one of the two… I’m just not sure white trousers are ever practical.

To be honest, these nylon slippers aren’t  something I would usually choose when out shopping, and not just because of the Prada price-tag. But when it comes to styling, I personally would opt for a more smart/casual vibe. Classic vintage Levi denim, paired with a crisp white shirt (bought a good few sizes bigger so it’s oversized). I enjoy mixing more laid-back pieces with something smart, it keeps the practicality whilst allowing you to be more experimental with your outfit. Assuming I could afford these almost $1k slippers, I assume I can afford an almost $1k bag. This Balenciaga oversized belt bag adds a much needed pop of colour, with the sporty style making the outfit feel more relaxed, reflecting the style of the slipper. Nicely balanced i’d say. Now we just need some bomb jewellery, but I don’t think my bank account could take another beating.

The only way that I could ever justify spending £700 on a pair of slippers is if I’ve won the lottery, so for this week’s shopping guide I’m going to pretend like I’ve done just that and go all out. Ahem, so first up is a cashmere (good start) Bottega Veneta sweater to add a pop of colour to the fit – I’ve fallen in love with their staple green colourway lately. Second is a pair of Jacquemus shorts, I figured the only time you could wear these slippers out is in summer… I don’t want to get my new near on 1k slippers wet. Then to finish off the outfit, a pair of rectangle sunglasses (my favourite kind) from Balenciaga and an Amiri messenger bag – that has the coolest clasp I’ve seen for a while. All in all I quite like the slippers and I’m sure my dog would too, so I guess I better go and buy a lottery ticket.

If I were to ever wear these I’d feel like a high-fashion version of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character from The Revenant. It’s so hard for me to imagine living in the snow right now as British summertime is so lush, but I’m going to test my imagination and skip forward 6 months into deep winter for a Gorpcore fit. Prada slippers, Gramicci G pants and an An Wander E-Vent overlay for the ultimate pre and post-climb fit. Kick off the Pradas for a La Sportiva climber shoe and you’re ready to go – if you think of it like that then the slipper is an awfully functional eskimo flex. You can even top off the fit with a Loewe chalk bag if you want the other climbers to sweat even more.

If we ignore the price tag on the Prada slippers for a second, it’s fair to describe slippers as casual. I’m not even sure I would actually wear these out, but if I did I would definitely stick to a laid back look. I’m not a big fan of loud patterns and prefer sticking to block colours instead. To match the black of the slippers I would style it with this black All Saints crop top. Although I was tempted to go for a pair of black shorts (all-black outfits are elite), I decided instead to go for some beige Carhartt shorts. To finish the look, add a pop of colour and satisfy my obsessions with belt bags, I would wear this Bottega Veneta one. Overall I’d make a chill summer look out of this, even though I would probably get very sweaty feet wearing those fuzzy slippers…
