Have you ever treated yourself to some retail therapy after a breakup? Ordered a pizza to cry over, or slip the ‘nice beers’ into your basket to distract you from thinking about that toxic ex? Drake did that recently, except on a slightly more intense scale.
To commemorate the FORTY-TWO times that he has nearly proposed, the rapper recently unveiled a stratospherically OTT piece of custom jewellery. When CULTED revealed the piece via our TikTok channel however, the general response was a mixture between crowning Drake a “king” for the move (@_asian2trappy) and some by contrast, insinuating that it was downright weird. Let’s unpack that.
The necklace itself, entitled ‘Previous Engagements’ is rumoured to be worth around $4.5 million and boasts 42 diamonds – each representing a lucky lady, obviously – racking up 351.38 carats. Despite the romantic sentiment, commenters couldn’t shake the concept of the sheer volume of marriages that Drake had considered, bluntly stating “Drake 0-42 on women” (@campfloggnawcounselor) and @ranuu_03 adding “Tryna marry every girl he dates”. Not every girl, Ranu. Only forty-two.
Whilst the necklace’s designer, Alex Moss, described the piece as ‘monumental art piece’, @beefsupreme69 clearly disagreed with the sickly sentiment behind the bling, calling Drake out as the “Goofiest rapper alive”. Painful. A few also questioned Aubrey’s true reasons for commissioning the piece, with @usernamechicki stating “i think all those zesty Drake tik toks has gotten in his head”.
The internet has a habit of ridiculing the rapper – who can forget the ‘Rich Flex’ TikTok trend, after all – maintaining his certified lover boy reputation however, some commenters found the gesture romantic, with @jojosmith101 adding “He can put them all into one ring and propose to me. I’ll put up with him for that.” Thank you for your service, Jojo.
We may never know why Aubrey has gotten so close to locking down a link quite so many times without following through. @kevin.13z however, reached the conclusion that “bro really said honestly never mind”. You do you, Drake.
