Culted Community Talks: Rick Owens Blow up boots

Rick Owens returned to the fashion schedule last week and presented a typically on-brand and expectedly strong Fall/Winter 2024 menswear collection. Dedicated to the designer’s hometown of Porterville in Southern California, a place which saw immense growth and enlargement thanks to a hefty hit of industrial development in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The Fall/Winter offering reflected this industrial expansion through a set of futuristic lower-leg hugging inflatable boots, made in collaboration with Straytukay, a London-based designer who experiments in architectural volumes bringing a signature dose of captivating conceptualism to the Palais Rick that was widely shared online, and it’s safe to say you guys had something to say.

@chairfly was a fan from afar, commenting: “I actually LOVE this but ik I’d get made fun of.” If we were to give you any advice, it would be to ignore the haters because those who know really know. We know that Rick Owens is the Opium gang’s outfitter of choice, and @jpegmafialover was quick to point it out, writing: “Opium final boss!?!?”@soumayita wanted to rock the office with the Rick Owens-designed blow-up boots: “I imagine myself wearing these to work on Monday. I will inform you about their reactions.” We can’t wait to see how it went down.

Here at Culted, we love it when function and fashion collide, and let’s just say if you ever find yourself on a sinking ship, you’ll be okay with these boots. Thanks to their inflatable properties, you’re bound to stay afloat. @isaiahjones173 was quick to point out the surprising versatility of the shoe. “Pov: when you put arm floaties on your feet instead of your arms.”

But as we know with anything inflatable, there’s always the risk you might get a puncture, as @cdub899 pointed out. “All good till you need to pull out the puncture repair kit at the club.” @walrusxz was quick to look at the behind-the-scenes reality of the shoes, commenting, “How was work today? Oh you know, blew up someone’s balloon boots for them.”

Whether you loved or loathed the Rick Owens inflatable boots, they got everyone talking. What did you think?
