Yung Lean is opening up another side of his creative world with "Collected Works 2016–2026," his first major exhibition dedicated entirely to visual art.
Staged inside Stockholm’s former Gasworks at Torsgatan 22, the exhibition brings together a decade of work by the Swedish artist and musician, whose real name is Jonatan Leandoer Håstad. While his music has made him one of Sweden’s most recognisable cultural exports, Håstad has spent years developing a visual practice largely away from public view. Now, much of that work is being shown for the first time.
"Collected Works 2016–2026" takes over the industrial space through a series of interconnected environments. Paintings and works on paper sit alongside collages, ceramics, sculptures and dioramas, with large-scale installations transforming different sections of the building into spaces including a salon, television room and dedicated screening room.
The work itself moves between different materials, scales and approaches. Bold paintings filled with distorted figures and heavy colour appear alongside more tactile sculptural pieces, including ceramics, while smaller objects and dioramas add another dimension to Håstad’s decade-long output. Together, the exhibition offers a much broader look at a creative practice that has largely existed in parallel with his career as Yung Lean.
Also included is "Slåtter (Haymaking)," a new narrative short film executive produced by and starring Håstad. The film follows two lovers through rural Sweden and brings another medium into an exhibition already spanning painting, sculpture, installation and moving image.
Following the exhibition, a curated selection of works, primarily sculptures, will be offered through an international online auction in collaboration with Bukowskis.
"Collected Works 2016–2026" is open at Norra Bangården, Torsgatan 22 in Stockholm until October 11, with admission free to the public.
