Between Call Me if you Get Lost and other creative endeavors, Tyler, the Creator’s workrate is unparalleled. Now, in collaboration with Converse, the rapper has written, directed and produced a short film to celebrate the classic Chuck 70 in Tyler fashion, dubbing the video “Really Cool Converse Club” and casting the likes of Vince Staples, Henry Rollins, Davon “Jasper” Wilson and NBA legends Bill Walton and Marquis Johnson.
“I instantly thought about the many pockets of people that wear Chucks – like skateboarders, soccer moms, kids down the street, guys in the neighborhood I grew up with – and I wanted to put them in one place, that was important to me,” said Tyler. “Everyone wears Chucks…including pirates.”
The video is laden with the charming, tongue-in-cheek humour Tyler brings everywhere he goes, and sees comic Josh Johnson kicking a member of the RCCC for violating the rules. The rule breaker is actor and SNL veteran Tim Meadows, who was caught red handed wearing a… denim hat?
The rules of the club are weird, but simple: “Rule number one: Never wear another shoe. Rule number two: If you must wear another shoe, don’t. Rule number three: No denim hats, because that is nasty and ignorant.”The Converse “Create Next” initiative aims to facilitate the creative expression of progressive, disruptive voices – Tyler being the first of many – in order to build the next chapter in Converse’s biography.
