Your wardrobe is begging for some texture. This summer, we’re wearing clothes that look and feel good; items that invite you to touch them, even in the 30 degree heat. Here’s how to add some texture to your fits.
RUN YOUR FINGERS THROUGH FRINGE

Fringe is one of the cooler textures we’d recommended to combat the summer heat. Whilst typically attached to the hems of jackets and skirts, fringe’s breezy, swishy texture can be found on literally every garment possible and never fails to add a luxurious touch to your fit. Prada’s SS24 Menswear show had fringing attached to shirts; however, this wasn’t just any fringe, as it was also printed with images of flowers that swished in and out of focus as the model walked.

A TEXTURE THAT GIVES LUXURY: WEAVING

The GOAT of weaving has to be Bottega Veneta, famously known for its intrecciato-leather bags. “Intrecciato” is actually a style of weaving originally made popular by France and Italy, and involves hand-braiding slim strips of leather to create the iconic woven effect we now recognise as a Bottega staple. Whilst weaving isn’t a texture limited to bags alone, its thickness makes it most practical for luxury leather accessories.

FAUX FEATHERS TO ADD A DRAMA

Feathers might not be a natural choice for the height of summer, but it kind of depends how you wear it. We tend to think of feather boas which aren’t exactly day-to-day wear, but feathers (or faux feathers in reality) can actually be an exciting addition to an otherwise classic fit. For example, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY’s SS24 collection which showed this week adapted faux feathers into a vibrant blue mini skirt that bounced playfully around the model’s waist as they walked up the runway.

MAKING DENIM AN ELEVATED STAPLE

Denim’s a texture we tend to take for granted. Existing as a basic staple in everyone’s wardrobe, it’s not even worn as the standout piece, despite the fact that denim can be the main character if you just let it. Diesel’s undoubtedly the brand behind the most iconic denim pieces, and a glance at its FW23 collection proves it. Whilst the texture is littered throughout the collection, it’s Diesel’s exciting adaptation of denim into a silver sheen coated, ultra ripped, mesh panelled pair of trousers that we’re obsessed with.

GET OUT YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND INTO LATEX

Latex for summer might seem like a literal nightmare, but trust us: it pays off. JORDANLUCA’s SS24 Menswear collection which showed in Milan this week highlighted some more relaxed ways of wearing latex that don’t give “fetish-wear”, seen in beige midi-skirts and dusty-rose dresses that clung wetly to models’ bodies as they walked without appearing tight enough to cut off circulation.
