If you’re in fashion, Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran — the design duo/DJs/performance artists that also go by Matières Fécales — will already be on your radar for a few reasons: 1, because they’re doing something so different, personal, and real rn that the industry’s taking note, and 2, because they’re close friends with Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy.

Despite not having shown at Paris Fashion Week before, Matières Fécales’ debut show attracted so many members of its cult following that it required two shows instead of one just to accommodate them all. Hosted in the opulent Hotel le Marois, the crowd that gathered outside, parting so that Rick and Michele could pass through, was thick with eyeliner, shoulder pads, and platform boots.
Opening the show notes for Matières Fécales’ collection, titled “THE OTHER,” were the words “This collection is about being fearless in your identity. It’s about walking into a room with your head held high, even if nobody wants you there.” It went on to describe using clothing as a means of transforming, and this sense of self- confidence against the odds was an obvious theme on the runway.

Models might’ve been teetering in sky-high, curved stilettos, designed with Christian Louboutin, but they looked comfortable in their skin, owning the clothes they wore in a way that felt really powerful. From immaculate tailoring to sweatshirts to feather-covered gowns, every piece in the collection, no matter how casual or formal, was worn like a second skin.
