Courrèges SS26 was hotter than the sun

At Courrèges’ SS26 show, creative director Nicolas Di Felice told us backstage, “I really wanted to recreate the sun,” and ngl it felt like he did. Turning up the heat both figuratively and literally, even Courrèges’ show space, designed with Remy Brière and Matiere Noire, was sun-bleached-white and circular, as a reference to the pattern of the sun’s path.

Before the show started we’d already received a teaser that Nicolas Di Felice’s Courrèges would attempt the impossible (replicating the sun) in the form of its show invites, which were sunglasses. Entering the show space with the likes of Kim Petras and Emma Chamberlain our new Courrèges shades were essential, and it only got brighter from there.

On the runway, references to the sun were obvious, as Courréges revealed visors to protect your face from the glare, bangles melted under the heat, and dresses that acted as full face coverings, hiding models’ features from the bright lights. The collection’s colour palette also resembled the sun’s impact, starting cool with icy blue tones before transforming into a nice, deep tan, and then stark black at its hottest.

Swimwear was obviously a feature, worn with hybrid footwear and cutout bomber jackets that’s sleeves left the upside of your arm bare (essential in the scorching temperatures). Dresses made from classic Courrèges tiny belts and structured leather jackets contrasted with the fluidity of eveningwear, reminding us that Nicolas Di Felice can ofc do both.

If recreating the heat and intensity of the sun was Nicolas Di Felice’s aim at Courrèges SS26, he really did his thing with this one. We left the show feeling warm, refreshed, and craving a vacation.
