It’s CULTED with your 60-second NEWS BLAST.
With Hood By Air making its comeback, today we’re looking at one of its founders, designer Raul Lopez, who also has his own New York based label Luar.
Lopez serves gender fluid looks and merges identity, ballroom culture, hip-hop, and queerness into his designs. His collections aim to promote the constant curiosity of tomorrow.
After co-founding Hood By Air, recognised as pioneer in fusing sports and streetwear with luxury fashion, Lopez went it alone in 2016 when he relaunched his own label Luar.
His designs combine 80’s tailoring with leather and exaggerated glitter details creating a futuristic feel.
The self-taught designer grew up between the Dominican Republic and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. To him the Dominican Republic is, “the most fluid country” and a place that he felt glorified for being ‘flamboyant’.
Counting Solange and Rihanna among its biggest fans, Luar is a label defining its own space between fashion’s underground and industry.
