Forget the runway, Prada is going to the moon

That’s one small step for (wo)man, one giant leap for Prada. Mark your calendars because we’re about to witness a historical event: Prada will become the first Italian luxury fashion brand to head up to space thanks to a first-of-a-kind partnership with Axiom Space.

Prada will offer Axiom Space, the company responsible for providing NASA spacesuits worn by astronauts and for designing the first commercial space station, specially designed suits for an upcoming NASA mission.

This mission in question is that of NASA’s Artemis III mission, the first lunar-landing exploration since Apollo 17 in 1972. Artemis III is planned for 2025, and won’t only mark the first human landing in over 50 years, it will also mark the first time a woman lands on the moon, 56 years after the very first moon landing led by Neil Armstrong.

In a statement released by Prada, the Italian brand explained that the “AxEMU spacesuit will provide astronauts with advanced capabilities for space exploration,” which includes “increased flexibility, greater protection to withstand the harsh environment, and specialised tools for exploration and scientific opportunities.”

While little is known about the actual design of the suits, it’ll merge two unlikely worlds with Prada’s luxurious Italian savoir faire and Axiom Space’s knowledge and insight to adhere to NASA’s rigorous criteria.

Thanks to Prada, these chosen astronauts for Artemis III will go down in history as the most stylish moonwalkers known to mankind.
