Mugler’s SS21 Part 02 collection was showcased in a 7-minute video filled with stunts and acrobatics and an impressive cast of models that left all of us jaw-dropped.
Kicking off the show in a dark-lit theatre, Casey Cadwallader, the brand’s current creative director, is seen quite literally throwing Bella Hadid into mid-air. Not to worry though, as the model swiftly finds her footing on the runway and is seen walking backwards in tailored half-blue half-black jeans and a sheer black top. And we’re just getting started.
Accompanied by the dynamic sounds of trap-embedded house music, Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer makes a grand entrance by landing on stage. From somersaults to uncontrollable spinning while getting drenched in rain, the action-filled video showcased some of our favourite famous figures from DJ Shygirl, model Irina Shayk and Alek Wek to Pose’s Dominique Jackson and activist Patia Borja.
The collection felt very Cadwallader-esque, through the re-interpretation of the infamous sheer bodysuits which have already been seen worn by pop stars such as Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa. We also saw structured jackets and tops as well as nude and colourful figure-hugging dresses and catsuits. The designer continues to embrace the feminine physique, in all of its boundaryless beauty. In an interview with Vogue, Cadwallader states “For me, all bodies need to be designed for, not just skinny bodies, although, even skinny bodies sometimes have a bigger butt or boob“.
Presented on Transgender Day of Visibility, Cadwallader chose a diverse cast of models in support of the transgender community, following the footsteps of founder Thierry Mugler who was known for his queer-celebrating shows.
