Moncler Genius has just linked up with Donald Glover and Gilga Farm (Glover’s farm in Ojai, California), for a collab collection that fuses function with just straight up good design in subdued, laidback pieces. And a sleeping bag-jacket hybrid.
The rapper, director, actor, writer and general Renaissance man can now add “designer” to his LinkedIn lineup. Donald’s new take on the brand’s mountain codes explores summertime in Southern California with a sleek aesthetic and offbeat cartoons on the graphics.
The collection features technical and refined pieces that prioritise a summery vibe with transitional layers, including technical linen jackets and trousers, cotton tees, windbreakers, a burnt-orange suede jacket, caps, sandals in two colourways, and the main character of the collection: a duvet jacket that turns into a sleeping bag.
“Functionality is key — it’s something that connects the world of Gilga and Moncler, we both create for real-world usefulness,” Donald Glover said on the jacket. “The sleeping bag is one of the first products Moncler ever made, which inspired our sleeping bag jacket, but also led to a collection of summer fits grounded in real value.”
So, what was the core inspiration behind the collection? “I want to make things, but they need to have actual value and not just a piece,” Donald said, “I’m proud of the sleeping bag coat because of that.”
The drop comes with a cute cartoon video where Glover drifts off to sleep at Gilga Farm and wakes up in a Moncler-vibe mountain landscape, uniting the two worlds together.
This collab comes full circle for Glover: “I wanted a big puffy jacket while I was living in New York. I went to a store and they had one with a bunch of people drawn on it and yellow liner. Ended up being a Moncler ski coat. I still have it. Collabing with Moncler felt like a good home to have a take on farm/outdoor-wear.”
Glover’s Moncler linkup is just one of 11 collabs dropping as part of the Moncler Genius collection – guest designers including A$AP Rocky, Willow Smith and Edward Enninful.
