Having joined the label in 2017, Luke and Lucie Meier saw their 7-year tenure at Jil Sander come to a close today with their final collection for the house. The husband-wife duo definitely pulled off a strong finish to their time at the brand, bringing tropes and motifs that showed us a more stretched and adventurous side to Jil Sander’s design language.
Known for its powerful simplicity and less is more approach, the Meiers decided to really push the boundaries of what minimalism means with lace motifs, all-over feather and bow embellishments and experimentation with gradients. The results were boldly quiet statements that push the elegant and chic agenda that’s synonymous with the brand but in a way that feels fresh and contemporary.
The duo’s signature femininity was also made pretty obvious throughout the whole collection, with a co-ed offering that included pleated skirts atop trousers for the menswear looks. The FW25 season’s typical furry fingerprints were also all over the show with fur-lined collars on substantial wool coats and blazers as well as complete fur outerwear - the highlight being a collarless number with flawless brown and beige tones.
Silver is also in for Jil Sander this season, taking a step away from the typical gold finishes they usually opt for. It’s in almost all the looks whether it’s on the hardware of belt buckles or jackets, jewellery, the studded detailing on leather goods (including footwear) and, even, on the sequins on tops and dresses.
It’s clear that Luke and Lucie Meier wanted to leave the label in style and they definitely delivered, giving us such a multi-dimensional offering - both in layering and the actual, physical depth of the design elements. They took this last chance to really break away from the hardcore minimalistic codes the house is known for whilst still keeping the chic and luxe undertone that defines the brand’s key demographic. With the rumours of them becoming the CDs at Loewe circling around, this collection just proves that the duo will be able to pull off anything in effortless style.
