Liam Hodges’ SS21 collection, presented in a short film titled ‘Capsule 001: Thin Ice’, marks the brand’s comeback into fashion week since lockdown started.
Using his time spent in quarantine to reflect on our day-to-day formalities, Liam Hodges has realized that ‘normal is dangerous’. Wanting to escape from anything banal, the designer uses this collection as a manifesto to move away from the traditional value chain and feedback ways of the fashion industry.
‘Capsule 001: Thin Ice’ mixes found artefacts and textiles, decorated with industrial printings. Asymmetrical tops, roughly cut denim and unfinished hems were seen, further straying from conventional design standards. The collection is styled by Harry Lambert, Harry Styles’ stylist, who is known for his mind-bending and boundary-pushing aesthetic.
Exploring new materials, Hodges thought about original ways to reduce waste. Vintage t-shirts and repurposed materials became a primary source of inspiration and were utilized in the production of the collection. Using these upcycling processes not only makes this collection sustainable, they also undermine archaic garment-making methods, creating a sense of ‘unspoken collaboration across nations’.
Liam Hodges perfectly sums up his new collection’s ethos, stating ‘We need to throw out the rulebook, normal is a misadventure, a re-incarnated new world awaits’.
Liam Hodges’ SS21 collection is now available to scoop on his website.
