Young Thug just dropped new album “UY SCUTI”

Young Thug is back on business, making his comeback with album UY SCUTI, his first since the YSL RICO trial. UY SCUTI (named after the biggest star found in the universe) is here, after a few delays and setbacks, and Thug has a lot to say.

It’s been almost 11 months since the Atlanta rapper reached a plea deal for the YSL RICO trial – the longest-running trial in the state of Georgia’s history, following Thug’s arrest in May 2022 – and was released from jail. (Thug and the rest of YSL Records were charged for 56 counts on racketeering and gun- and drug-related offences.) Thug’s been keeping it lowkey since. He’s given us a few features including singles with Lil Baby and Future, and another drop to set the record straight.

In his new LP, he speaks his truth and reveals his inner thoughts in a series of tracks filled with hard features by Future, Cardi B, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Sexyy Red, Lil Baby and Mariah the Scientist, among others. Oh, and he calls Gunna a “rat”.

The “King Slime” courtroom sample

UY SCUTI’s first song “Ninja”, which starts out with a minute-and-a-half-long snippet from the YSL RICO trial where a state prosecutor calls Thug “King Slime”, stating that “he is the most dangerous of the 28”. You know Thug’s got cheek when he starts off his album with the hardest quote from his trial.

Rod Wave’s missing verse

Earlier today Thug tweeted about Rod Wave having a verse on the album, which is currently missing. Thug took to X to explain: “Rod wave had a verse on blaming Jesus and I’m sorry to the fans that my team didn’t put on the song. Doin some firing in the a.m and the song will be fixed tomorrow – I’m sorry to his fans”.

The leaked jail calls

There’s a lot of lore here. But to sum it up in a few short paragraphs, this is what went down. A flood of phone call recordings was leaked from conversations Thug had during his incarceration from May 2022 to October 2024, while waiting for the YSL RICO trial.

It all started with a reportedly two-year-old video that surfaced late August, in which Thug is being grilled about the 2015 incident where Lil Wayne’s tour bus was shot at, a major component of the RICO trial against Thug and YSL. Many people have taken this as Thug snitching on his co-defendants. After the video came out, fan accounts on X and rap media accounts like @kurrco got hold of a range of phone calls Thug made during his time in jail.

On the call recordings Thug gave context on his real opinions on everything from Gunna’s freedom (Gunna accepted an Alford plea deal in 2022, which allowed him to go free nearly two years before the rest of his YSL crew) to the Kendrick Lamar/Drake beef, and admitted to cheating on his then-girlfriend Mariah the Scientist. Thug has addressed some of the issues that came up on the recordings.

Earlier this month, Thug released “Miss My Dogs”, a track where he apologises to Mariah the Scientist, Drake, Future, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, and his family. “Miss My Dogs” is the last song on the album. Thug takes control of the narrative with UY SCUTI
