Hunter, the British footwear brand has just released its ‘insulated and waterproof edit’, featuring insulated boots and an insulated parka, as well as a rubberised leather backpack. This is just another piece of evidence that Gorpcore will be the standout trend for 2021.
But what is Gorpcore? Gorpcore, named after the trail-mix acronym ‘Good ol’ raisins and peanuts’ has risen to become one of the most popular fashion trends heading into 2021. The style focuses on hiking and exploration, wearing durable yet slimming clothes that allow you a full range of movement.
Instead of the tough raw denim or hard cotton jackets we associate with the workwear movement, this style focuses on breathability, comfort and most importantly warmth.
Hunter is one of the brands that has benefited from the ‘Gorpcore’ trend, seeing an ’88% increase in e-commerce sales in the last quarter vs. the 2019 and 100% increase in brand interest and searches’ per a recent press release. Hiking even saw attention in the luxury world, the recent The North Face X Gucci collaboration is a perfect example, it celebrates the spirit of exploration.
Exploring the wilderness, being able to leave the home, these are things that we have sorely craved in the stay-at-home era. It’s no surprise then that brands that have consistently delivered on these products are seeing large commercial success.
