What’s everyone’s obsession with raw denim?

When it comes to essential jeans for any wardrobe, there aren’t many as classic as a pair of raw denim or, better said as, selvedge denim. They’re stiff af, not to be put in the washing machine, and have this timeless, indigo wash that pairs with anything, but why do we all need a pair?

Selvedge denim from brands like A.P.C. and Levi’s became popular because of how the denim would evolve and fade as you wore them without washing for 6-12 months (kinda gross, ik). By wearing them without washing, you’d develop your own marks from whatever you did in your jeans, from an imprint of your phone on the pocket to whiskers on the knee from sitting.

Nowadays, everyone’s feigning for raw denim because of that deep indigo blue colour that goes with anything. You can dress it up or down and it’s perfect for everyday wear. Best of all, selvedge denim (if bought from the right place) is really high quality and will take whatever you throw at it - it’s the only pair of jeans you need.
