Sies Marjan designer Sander Lak is dropping a new brand

Sander Lak is back and launching an eponymous menswear brand, SanderLak, later this month.

The Dutch designer founded the then immensely popular brand Sies Marjan back in 2016 after cutting his teeth at Dries Van Noten’s Antwerp studio. He went on to be crowned the CFDA’s Emerging Designer in 2018 and was named in the BOF500. The brand—known for its kaleidoscopic colour scheme—found fans in Beyoncé, Bella Hadid, and Zoë Kravitz. In 2020 the brand fell victim to the pandemic and shuttered when one of its key financial backers pulled out.

But there will be some notable differences between Sies Marjan and Lak’s new brand. While Marjan was a luxury ready-to-wear label for both men and women, SanderLak will be focused on menswear. It will sit between high fashion and wearability and will be more affordable than Lak’s former brainchild.

The clothes will be produced in Portugal, and the collections will be based around a specific place, inspired by Lak’s nomadic childhood.

SanderLak will produce around two collections annually and will launch in Paris later this month.
