Mugler’s Creative Director, Casey Cadwallader, who’s been heading up the brand since 2018, stepped down today, with a new face taking his spot at the helm of the house. For the next era of Mugler’s brand, Miguel Castro Freitas - who was previously at brands including Sportmax, Dries Van Noten, and Christian Dior Couture - is stepping up.
But what’s Mugler’s new look going to be? Hopefully something closer to Thierry Mugler’s OG vision. Since Cadwallader stepped in in 2018, Mugler’s gone down a much more modern route, arguably losing some of the opulence and couture-level detail it was known for under its founder Thierry.

Our attention’s been brought back to Mugler’s archive recently via celebrities repping the brand, the most viral moment being Zendaya wearing a look from Thierry Mugler’s Fall/Winter 1996 show to the Dune: Part Two premiere. It’s clear we’re desperate for a revival of Thierry Mugler’s OG craft: the reptilian look from FW97, or the Venus Dress from SS95.
Rn, we’re hoping Miguel Castro Freitas brings back some of this era. But who knows what his Mugler will look like.
