Marc Jacobs is up for sale (for $1 billion)

LVMH is in chats to sell Marc Jacobs, for $1 billion dollars. US companies Authentic Brands Group, Bluestar and WHP Global have all thrown their hats in the ring.

28 years after LVMH first took on Marc Jacobs, the French company has (allegedly) put up Marc Jacobs for sale. LVMH is said to be working with investment bankers at J.P. Morgan to find a buyer for $1b.

Marc Jacobs remains one of the most exciting brands in the industry, pulling unmatched talent for its campaigns such as Alex Consani, Doja Cat, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, among many others, developing a cult social media following and designs that tap in the culture.

The designer himself is also a trailblazer in the industry: in his four-decade-long career he’s managed to make his mark by pioneering the concept of the collaboration, evolving the Louis Vuitton brand as creative director, cashing in on celebrity culture (his LV and Marc Jacobs bags have been papped to the ground), creating a range of it-items, and killing it at the Met Gala. Oh, and he also has an upcoming Sofia Coppola documentary about his life and career

Whoever buys MJ will not only be tapping into genius marketing, but will be investing into a successful brand that stands on business in its 12-inch Marc Jacobs Kiki boots. But, LVMH is only just thinking about it (for now).
