Minimalism is key at Simone Bellotti’s Jil Sander debut

Real ones know that minimalism is key to Jil Sander’s heritage, and Simone Bellotti’s new era for the brand has placed it front and centre. Understanding how integral reductionist styles and silhouettes are to Jil Sander’s distinct vision, Bellotti’s debut at Milan Fashion Week put an emphasis on the “less is more” mentality the brand was founded on. Our main takeaway? Simone Bellotti for Jil Sander is a match made in heaven.

Today at Belloti’s SS26 collection put an emphasis on minimalism via a reduced yet optimistic colour palette; sharp, elevated silhouettes; and precise tailoring: all characteristics at the core of Jil Sander’s identity. Bringing the attention back to the brand’s roots, this new chapter speaks to the cult following that Jil Sander has built over the years, respecting the past while stepping into the future.

On the runway, Simone Bellotti’s new chapter manifested as essential tailoring that placed an emphasis on quality, as seen in clean-cut jackets, structured dresses, and iron-pressed slacks. Outerwear was as always a highlight, showing off Jil Sander’s talent for tailoring to the max and feeling almost reminiscent of Raf Simons’ era at the brand.

Jil Sander’s SS26 accessories were luxurious, appearing in the form of sculpted heels with looping straps, essential brogues in classic brown leather, curved leather shoulder bags, and accordion-style clutches with wraparound handles. Jil Sander always walks the line between practical and elevated, and this season its accessories were evidence that there’s no need to compromise on either.

Fitted skirts and dresses appeared with slashes at the knee, which broke up the formality of the collection, similarly to the reflective silver fabric and embroidered sequins on a couple of looks that acted as an injection of playfulness in between Bellotti’s focus on minimalism.

There were more romantic details within the collection, too, which broke the clean lines of Jil Sander’s tailoring with light organza and pale pink and cream hues. A few dresses made from a thin, opaque fabric added a playful touch to the collection - in particular, one in a bright azure-blue was incredibly eye-catching.
